More than 100,000 adults in Milwaukee can’t read above a third-grade level. Literacy Services of Wisconsin (LSW) gives them a second chance by teaching them to read, write, speak English and get a high-school equivalency degree.
Being able to read isn’t just about enjoying crossword puzzles or understanding foreign films. It’s the ability to get a better job so you can support your family – or finally help your kids with homework. Being self-sufficient is about more than you – it’s having the tools to pay it forward into the community.

By using horses as a therapeutic tool, Avalon TEC works with children and adults with physical, emotional and developmental special needs such as cerebral palsy, multiple sclerosis, autism and victims of abuse and neglect. Riders improve their self-confidence, self-awareness, balance and muscle strength due to the interaction between the horse, licensed therapist and volunteer.
Avalon TEC is always looking for volunteers, so CRW created this ad to inspire people to help give those who feel restricted by a disability or developmental challenge a chance to break free.

This ad was developed by Laughlin Constable ad agency and inspired by a real-life story. One of LC's employees had a friend whose home was destroyed in a very large fire. This victim noted that before the TV stations arrived on the scene, the Red Cross was there with clothing, meals and even an address for a place for the family to stay the night. Most people think of the Red Cross as an organizer of blood drives, but this story is a good example of how they do so much more, and they do it for no cost to those in need. But in order to do these things, they need donations. This ad is a reminder that donations and volunteers make it all happen.
